Dental Crowning
Dental crowning, also known as a dental crown or a cap, is a type of dental restoration that covers a tooth to restore its shape, size, strength, and appearance. Crowns are used to protect and strengthen teeth that are weak, damaged, or have undergone significant decay. They can also be used to improve the appearance of a tooth that is discolored, misshapen, or has undergone a root canal treatment. The following is what we offer at Elite Dental Clinic:
- Examination and Preparation: Our dentist will examine the tooth to determine if a crown is necessary. If a crown is recommended, the tooth will be prepared by removing a small amount of enamel to make room for the crown. An impression of the tooth will then be made to create a custom crown that fits the tooth perfectly.
- Temporary Crown: While the permanent crown is being made, a temporary crown may be placed over the tooth to protect it.
- Placement of the Permanent Crown: Once the permanent crown is ready, it will be placed over the tooth and adjusted for fit and comfort. The crown will then be cemented into place, covering the entire visible portion of the tooth above the gumline.
